Where it started
2020
Chase and Rylan meet on a job site on Vancouver Island. Two electricians who share the same belief – that the work should be done properly, every time. A working relationship built on trust and accountability starts here.
The project that changed everything
2022
A shared interest in bushcraft leads to a bigger project – building a backcountry shelter from scratch. Long days hauling logs, problem-solving in real time, and long conversations around the fire about what a trades company should actually look like. The idea that would become Origin takes shape.
Origin is born
2025
Five years after meeting, Chase and Rylan take the leap and launch Origin Energy. Built on the same values they’d been talking about since day one – honesty, quality craftsmanship, and work they’re proud to put their name on.

Origin Energy is serving homeowners, builders, and businesses across Vancouver Island. The name says it all – going back to the origin of what good tradesmanship looks like. Same two people, same standard.

Ryan Wellman
Owner, Journeyman Electrician
I’ve been training in the electrical trade since 2014, building a strong foundation in both residential and commercial work. Outside of work, I stay closely connected to the lifestyle that shapes who I am, spending time caring for the horses on the farm I live on, working on my 1993 F-250, fishing for lingcod, camping with my wife and friends, and enjoying long weekends at the lakes on Quadra Island.
Chase Fraser
Owner, FSR Master Electrician
I’ve been in the electrical trade since 2015, and over that time I’ve really grown to enjoy the work and the challenges that come with it. I’ve worked across residential, commercial, and backup power systems, and I’m always looking to keep learning and getting better at what I do. When I’m not on the tools, I’m spending time with my family, raising my twins, and getting outdoors whenever I can. That drive, working hard and building something for their future, is what I bring into Origin Energy and every job we take on.
